The Special Grand Collection....

In the tradition of the finest concert grand piano on today's stage, Timepieces in The Special Grand Collection are built at Chelsea with the same painstaking attention to detail today as they were one hundred years ago.

The wood pedestal is joined together with three large sections of solid mahogany, fit with great care and hand rubbed to a deep finish.  The pedestal's graceful curves are a perfect compliment to the clock's case.

The clock's forged brass case is formed under intense pressure creating a material so dense it can be flawlessly finished and produce a tonal quality for the chiming movement reminiscent of a fine concert piano.  A chiming you will come to anticipate and cherish in your home of office.

The weight of the forged brass bezel and glass crystal is so great it requires a specially designed cast hinge that fits the contours of the case and bezel.

The clocks large diameter (8 1/2 inches) brass dial is silvered using a proprietary technique developed at Chelsea in the late nineteenth century.  The dial is placed on a potters wheel and spun while a specially formulated silver compound is applied by hand with a small brush.  The result is both beautiful and durable.  Both the clock's face and case are hand spray lacquered to protect their flawless finish.

Arguably, the most impressive part of the clocks in this collection are the parts you cannot see - hidden behind the beautiful face.  The Chelsea wind-up mechanical striking movement is the finest in the world.  Over three hundred precision parts made with the same care today as when the movement was first patented in America and England in 1898.  Its gold plated wheels and polished pinions are machined with such precision they are just press fit together.
